In June 2006 we flew in an Beaver float camp from Homer , Alaska across the Katmai straits to a shelterd cove north of Hallo bay.
Our guide veteran bear biologist Derek Stonorov was there to meet us aboard our expedition vessel- the Kittiwake.
For the next ten days we tracked large Alaskan brown bears on foot- painting and drawing these gregarious , tolerant and awesome predators in extremely close proximity. we were amazed at how close were were able to get as the bears fed on riverine sedge grasses and dug for clams on the vast volcanic black-sand beaches.
We were accompanied on this expedition with a writer /photographer team from Mens Vogue USA and BBC wildlife photographer of the year Geroge Duffield. The magazine feature of our art making experiences in Alaska and beyond will be featured in Mens Vogue USA in the fall 2006.
