The following works on paper were made in 2007 and 2006 with African wilddogs in the Mkomazi reserve in northern Tanzania- part of the George Adamson Preservation Trust's initiatve to breed and re-locate the highly endangered African hunting dog to new wild ranges.
We have been working in Mkomazi since 1994 following the course of presevationist Tony Fitzjohn's ground breaking work there. When George Adamson was brutally gunned down in Kora, Tony left Kenya and was invited to help save the Mkomazi eco system and its numerous game animals, reintroducing black rhino and African wilddogs.
Aside from man, African wilddogs are the best hunters in the world. Over 70 percent of all their hunts end in a kill. They are gregarious social canids with strong family infrastructure. Wilddogs are curious of people and although capable of killing humans have never done so, despite our ongoing slaughter of the species. Due to their accepting nature we have been able to conduct all our work over the years inside the enclosures , in extremely close proximity to the wilddogs. They are an amazing apex predator and we are commited to helping to raise awareness for their current predicament. " Wilddog" is currently the subject of our new show at Eleven Fine Art in london and our recent talk at the Royal Geographical Society in November 2007
