Chatnika landscape

Exploring landscape is vital to us. Whilst a portion of our work focuses on tracking a specific creature, that creature and the process of tracking is inextricably linked to the habitat in which the animals live. A moose is majestic Because its home is too. A moose removed would be out of context and a landscape devoid of great beasts would be similarly affected. The rocks and geology would remain but critical elements of the biodiversity would be lost, the landscape in a sense would become a more Sterile one…

making work on site in the wilderness connects us to the landscape and to the land. The weather, the temperature, the soil beneath our feet, the smell of pine sap and the transition of sunlight effects what we see, what we feel and ultimately what we paint. Here in sub arctic alaska painting  this small landscape outside of Chatnika early one morning tracking fresh moose spoor we felt truly a part of the landscape.
