Lone polar bear

Made on our first expedition to track and paint the polar bears of Hudson Bay in 1996.
We spent a few weeks out on the tundra , often near a gang of Eskimo dogs drawing and interacting with the transient population of polar bear.

One large boar rested in his day bed , in the willows, waiting for the ice to form so he could be on his way.
He appeared seemingly unconcerned by our presence. We spent hours with this bear , pegged out our papers and drew him as the wind buffeted us and the sled dogs howled near by. A magical interaction.
