This was our first sight of a captive brown bear. It paced its concrete piss stained enclosure, its spirit somehow depleted, traumatised by the monotony of its existence. Later this bear was translocated to a few acres of pine forest, a sanctuary from people a place with shade and shelter , a lake in which to fish, pine needles underfoot, for the first time in its life. We heard later it’s repetitive swaying gait had ceased as nature was once again introduced to its world.
